About The Position

The Florida Atlantic University School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) invites applications for a tenure-line assistant professor position starting Fall 2026 on the Boca Raton campus. While all substantive areas of expertise will be considered, we are particularly interested in applicants with research agendas focused on (a) policing or (b) biosocial criminology. The position is a full-time, 9-month appointment that begins August 8, 2026. Florida Atlantic is a Carnegie doctorate-granting university with over 32,000 students. Florida Atlantic’s strategic plan prioritizes healthy aging, neuroscience, environmental science, and sensing and smart systems. These priorities are supported by faculty research in areas that also address leadership, global perspectives and participation, community engagement, undergraduate research, big data analytics, healthy and sustainable campus environments, and peace, justice, and human rights. Within each of the priorities, Florida Atlantic is committed to the principles of engaged research, teaching, and service. In 2025, Florida Atlantic achieved the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education’s highest and most coveted Very High Research Activity status (R1). The College of Social Work and Criminal Justice is a partnership between the SCCJ and the Sandler School of Social Work. Our intention is to reimagine our professions, promote multidisciplinary education and research, address a wider spectrum of societal needs, and champion systemic change through scholarship, teaching, and service. Our School offers a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree, a minor in Criminal Justice, a minor in Forensic Investigation, a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice degree, and a 5-year combined BA/MS degree program in Criminology and Criminal Justice. The SCCJ is also home to the paralegal and legal nurse consulting certificate programs. The undergraduate degree program is the fifth largest by enrollment at Florida Atlantic and offers a rich educational environment through multiple delivery methods, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid/blended formats. School initiatives include a decision-making simulation lab, a student CJ Club, a Mock Trial Team, community engaged research, study abroad, high school summer camps, a fully online undergraduate degree program, research colloquia, and research partnerships with the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors.
