About The Position

The Communication Department within the College of Arts and Letters at University of Tampa seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Communication and Media Studies program to begin August 15, 2026. The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, which is a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area. UTAMPA reflects this vibrancy; with 30 consecutive years of enrollment growth UTAMPA boasts 260 student organizations, a multicultural student body from 50 states and more than 100 countries, and "Top Tier" ranking in U.S. News and World Report. Teaching load is 3 courses (12 credit hours) per semester over two 15-week semesters per academic year. The department seeks a candidate with a Ph.D. (by time of appointment) in Film/Media Studies or a related field to teach World Cinema and other film and media studies courses. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in film studies, and we encourage applications from scholars who approach the field from a perspective informed by film and media theory, transnational film history, or other approaches aimed at broadening perspectives on film/media production, cultural contexts, and audiences. In addition to World Cinema, candidates might teach other film and media courses offered by the department such as Film Directors, Film Theory and Criticism, and Global Media Cultures. We are open to candidates who integrate media production and critical inquiry in their teaching through emergent/convergent platforms such as video essays, podcasts, VR/AR, etc. We welcome candidates who can strengthen the critical and cultural breadth of our curriculum, including updating existing courses and proposing new ones (as needed). The Department of Communication includes four vibrant majors and participates in delivering two interdisciplinary M.A. programs. Undergraduate programs include Advertising & Public Relations (ADPR); Communication and Media Studies (CMS), Journalism (JOU), and Speech and Communication Studies (CSS). Graduate programs include the M.A. in Professional Communication (MAPC) and M.A. in Social and Emerging Media (MASEM).
