About The Position

The Department of Art, Communication, & Theater at Texas A&M University-Kingsville seek applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Communication and Theatre for the start of the 2026 fall semester. Teaching duties include face-to-face and/or online communication and theatre courses at the undergraduate level and potential for developing seminar courses.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in Communication or Theatre and 18 graduate hours in the other discipline from a regionally accredited institution or university.

Nice To Haves

  • Scholarly expertise in Communication and/or Theatre fields evidenced by published articles, productions, performances or other citable works; an emerging record of professional activity as evidenced by conference presentations in communication, theatre or a related field.
  • At least two academic years of university level teaching experience in Communication and/or theatre at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience teaching seminar courses.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate communication and theatre courses in support of the B.A. program, as well as the general education and dual enrollment curriculum of the university.
  • Provide timely feedback and instructor/student interaction in asynchronous online course format with occasions for online office hours and/or Q&A sessions. Regular weekly interaction is expected in online courses.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to relate to undergraduate students, especially with non-department majors.
  • Engage in the mentoring and encouragement of students in the classroom, integration of culturally responsible pedagogy.
  • Ability to recruit and foster learning environments that support the needs of first generation and nontraditional students.
  • Ideally, the candidate will be dynamic, collaborative with communication and theatre faculty, collegial, and willing to contribute to the mission of the Department, College, and University.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean.
