About The Position

The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as Clinician-Scientist at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the Jewish General Hospital-CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellence and innovative clinical programs across the network of teaching hospitals. The Jewish General Hospital is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice and partake in at least 50% research responsibilities in the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine at the Jewish General Hospital-CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. They will join the Division of Geriatrics, which consists of 5 full-time academic geriatricians and 4 Family Medicine members. Furthermore, they will have a research appointment in the Lady Davis Institute, which is affiliated with the Jewish General Hospital. Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to research, clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), as well as research and administration. As a Clinician-Scientist, the successful candidate will be expected to spend 50% of their time dedicated to research and develop and maintain an independent and productive research program. The research program is expected to attract external peer reviewed funding (e.g. Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fonds de Recherche Québec—Santé). Internal startup funding may be available on a competitive basis to a suitable candidate. A specific interest in geroscience and the impact of cognition on brain health and geroscience will be considered an asset. The Clinician-Scientist will have opportunities to lead and conduct clinical trials and research trials. Clinical responsibilities will include covering consult services, attending in outpatient clinics and taking evening and weekend on call duties in Geriatric Medicine. The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees). McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. Requirements

  • Hold an MD degree, and must have completed specialty training in Geriatric Medicine
  • Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent)
  • Be eligible for licensure in the province of Quebec and hold certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec
  • Hold a MSc or PhD degree in a domain pertaining to aging and geriatrics
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec
  • Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals
