About The Position

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Department of Anesthesiology has an opening for a full-time Anesthesiologist at the faculty rank of Assistant Professor. The chief responsibility of the department is to assure the best possible outcomes for our patients having surgical operations, painful invasive procedures, and childbirth. The University of Colorado affiliated hospitals have top nationally-recognized physicians delivering the best possible anesthetic care as well as a full range of perioperative care. The anesthesiologist provides specialized care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. Requirements

  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado
  • All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists (“board eligible) or a Diplomat of the Board, or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to it’s diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
  • Applicants must be fellowship-trained or have significant post-residency experience (5+ years).
  • Strong working and theoretical knowledge of Anesthesiology and Peri-operative Medicine

Responsibilities

  • The attending anesthesiologist administers care alone or supervises physicians-in-training (residents), certified registered nurse anesthetists and certified anesthesiologist assistants.
  • When working alone, he/she examines the patient before and after anesthesia, writes pre and post anesthesia orders, confirms that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction, manages the anesthetic period, and follows patient as long as is appropriate in the post anesthesia period.
  • The position is full-time and will be assigned clinical duties in any of the University of Colorado School of Medicine affiliated hospitals to include University of Colorado Hospital affiliates.
  • As an attending anesthesiologist, the candidate may be required to perform these services in the operating room, in the labor and delivery area, in radiology, and in the outpatient procedure center.
  • As faculty members of the School of Medicine, candidates are also expected to contribute to the teaching needs of the Department and the School. This may include, but is not limited to, preparing and delivering lectures, serving as a preceptor, and providing one-on-one instruction.
  • Attending anesthesiologists, as faculty members, are also expected to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the specialty by way of clinical or laboratory research.
