About The Position

Prestage Farms is seeking an Assistant Production Coordinator who will be responsible for coordinating and optimizing the movement and delivery of market hogs from contract growers to processing facilities. This role ensures hogs are marketed at optimal weights while meeting packer schedules, animal welfare standards, and company production goals. The Assistant Production Coordinator works closely with growers, transportation providers, field staff, and processing plants to ensure efficient, timely, and compliant hog flow. Primary responsibilities may include the following, among others:

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, animal science, business, or related field required
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with grower representatives, drivers, and plant personnel
  • Ability to analyze data and make timely decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and scheduling or production management software
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Adapts to change well
  • Willing to work with a diverse group of individuals

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and coordinate the weekly and daily movement of market hogs to processing plants
  • Monitor hog weights, growth projections, and inventory to optimize market readiness
  • Communicate regularly with contract growers regarding load dates, counts, and expectations
  • Coordinate transportation logistics, including load times, truck availability, and route efficiency
  • Adjust schedules based on plant needs, weather, animal health, and production changes
  • Maintain accurate records of schedules, loads, weights, and deliveries
  • Ensure compliance with animal welfare guidelines, biosecurity protocols, and company policies
  • Collaborate with field supervisors, veterinarians, and production teams to address issues impacting marketability
  • Respond to after-hours scheduling changes or emergencies as required
  • Use scheduling software, spreadsheets, and production data systems to support decision-making
