About The Position

Under the direction of the pastor and principal, the assistant principal minister is responsible for being a school spiritual and academic leader, fostering Catholic identity in accordance with the school’s mission statement and philosophy. Additionally, the assistant principal minister is responsible for supporting the Diocese of St. Augustine in its mission to evangelize and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and strong commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church.
  • Must possess a State of Florida Professional Teaching Certificate.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and every five years; must complete Protecting God’s Children (PGC) workshop prior to employment.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in speaking and writing to both adults and children.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure.
  • Knowledge and ability to assess needs and strategies and adapt appropriately in a school ministerial environment.
  • Proficient in use of computer technology, including school-related software.
  • Ability to display sound judgment in dress and general behavior, exhibiting professional demeanor, with a clean and neat personal appearance at all times.
  • Must consistently demonstrate a positive, friendly, respectful and caring attitude with colleagues, the public, and all one serves in word and deed.
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well organized.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate school-related events.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, or in the process of obtaining one, from an accredited institution.

Responsibilities

  • Recognizes and supports the unique Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Exercises leadership in all phases of education.
  • Administers diocesan and local school policies, applicable state laws, and the policies and standards of applicable accrediting agencies.
  • Maintains physical and informational security at all times, respecting confidentiality and privacy.
  • Works collaboratively in a positive, friendly and professional manner.
  • Plans, operates, supervises and evaluates the school’s educational programs, promoting a pleasant and effective teaching and learning environment.
  • Provides for the safety, welfare, and care of students.
  • Ensures development of faculty and student codes of conduct that reflect the gospel values, enforcing established discipline standards when required.
  • Manages an effective and efficient records system, maintaining complete, accurate and current student records, in compliance with diocesan school guidelines and accepted standards.
  • Manages school facilities, including a clean, safe and orderly campus.
  • Cooperates with the principal, pastor and the school board to manage financial matters of the school, consistent with budgetary guidelines.
  • Works collaboratively with the principal to build the faith community, giving evidence of the lived Gospel values by personal example and by being an active member of a faith community.
  • Communicates and works effectively with all staff members, parents, and students.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
