About The Position

The Assistant Principal of Students at LEAD Public Schools assumes full responsibility for establishing a positive, supportive school culture and meeting diverse student needs within the school. The Assistant Principal of Students will drive outstanding school level results by ensuring conditions are set within their school that inspire a love of learning and prioritize student outcomes. The APS is a skilled communicator whose words and actions exemplify the LEAD belief that children do well if they can, families are partners in the work, and that we are all 100% responsible for student learning. The APS manages the full Student Support Team (SST) including student support coordinators, counselors, and Deans of Culture. In doing so, the APS provides leadership on all aspects of student culture including behavioral interventions and counseling, student discipline, school joy, parent relationships, and students’ overall educational experience. The Assistant Principal of Students at LEAD Public Schools desires to grow in the network and have a broader impact for the good of students and families. He or she motivates and inspires staff to prioritize student outcomes as the ultimate goal for all professional efforts.

Requirements

  • Previous school leadership experience as Assistant Principal, dean, or team leader.
  • Experience supervising and evaluating staff and serving as a leader of teams and individuals.
  • At least four years of exemplary teaching is preferred; the ideal candidate will have closer to 7+ years of experience working in schools.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with diverse student populations or in an urban setting preferred
  • A Master’s degree is preferred, but experience leading in a school and managing teams successfully is paramount.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and Develop Talent:
  • Responsible for meeting school level results by selecting, recruiting, onboarding, training, evaluating, and managing the overall performance of the school’s student support team.
  • Conducts formal performance reviews and compensation discussions in alignment with LEAD human resource practices and policies
  • Engage school student support team in reflective thinking while looking critically at progress towards individual student goals.
  • Develop capacity of student support team members to take on leadership tasks- facilitating meetings, leading a professional development session, managing challenging conversations with students’ families, etc.
  • Coach all school staff to build and maintain strong professional rapport that extends beyond their primary school team (grade level, SST, instructional leaders, etc)
  • Intentionally develop the Dean of Culture as a manager of others.
  • Participate in TEAM evaluations and/or be the manager for one or more teachers as determined by the principal.
  • Directly lead or manage others in their implementation of professional development that ensures staff is knowledgeable on a wide range of educational practices including TLAC, trauma informed practices, and culturally responsive approaches to instruction.
  • School Culture Leadership:
  • Partner with the principal to drive an organizational culture where staff and students feel connected, are empowered to contribute, and where their capacity is regularly developed. Make their school a great place to teach and learn.
  • Lead the school’s Student Support Team to ensure that school culture initiatives are student-focused and aligned with the school’s vision, goals, and improvement plans.
  • Lead implementation, in partnership with API, of core TLAC strategies paired with LEAD’s token economy within DeansList to ensure a consistent classroom culture is being established across the school.
  • Implement network and school level walkthroughs at predetermined intervals in order to improve school performance.
  • Model an asset-based mindset and approach with all school stakeholders and use consistent feedback to coach others to do the same.
  • Data Analysis:
  • Own the tracking, monitoring, analysis, communication, and response to all behavior data, including follow up communication with families from all staff- either directly or through the delegation of others.
  • Lead, in partnership with the school counseling team, the implementation of the LEAD Student Survey in the fall and the spring.
  • Analyze trends in data collected from walkthroughs to communicate any needed adjustments to programming and to identify areas where staff need continued development.
  • Lead SST to determine how data aligns to end-of-year goals- attendance, behavior, Student Survey and Insight Survey
  • Collaborate with LPS Academic Team to break-out data prioritizing the analysis of what data is saying about areas of school culture
  • Use school wide and teacher data to inform, assess, and adjust professional learning goals and plans.
  • Other Responsibilities:  Lead and/or collaborate in projects or initiatives as assigned
