About The Position

The Assistant Principal of Instruction is a dynamic instructional leader responsible for driving high-quality teaching and learning across Deep Roots Charter School. This role oversees curriculum implementation, instructional coaching, assessment practices, and data-driven decision-making to ensure rigorous, joyful, and equitable learning experiences for all students. The Assistant Principal of Instruction works closely with teachers, instructional coaches, and school leadership to strengthen classroom practice, align instruction to standards, and close opportunity gaps. Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading instructional improvement in an urban or charter school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum design, instructional best practices, assessment, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Proven ability to coach and develop teachers across experience levels.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Deep commitment to Deep Roots' mission, core values, and anti-racist educational practices.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with a focus on continuous instructional improvement.
  • Master's degree in education, curriculum & instruction, or school leadership required.
  • Pennsylvania teaching certification required

Nice To Haves

  • PA Administrative certification strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of improving instructional quality and student academic outcomes through leadership and coaching.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support high-quality instruction across grade levels and content areas, ensuring alignment with Pennsylvania standards and Deep Roots' instructional vision.
  • Supervise and coach teachers through regular classroom observations, feedback cycles, and individualized coaching plans focused on instructional growth and student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with instructional coaches and leadership to plan and facilitate job-embedded professional development aligned to school-wide priorities.
  • Support teachers in developing rigorous, engaging lesson plans that reflect culturally responsive and inclusive instructional practices.
  • Lead the implementation and refinement of curriculum across subject areas, ensuring coherence, vertical alignment, and fidelity to instructional materials.
  • Oversee formative and summative assessment practices, including benchmark assessments, unit assessments, and performance-based tasks.
  • Guide teachers in analyzing student data to inform instructional adjustments, intervention planning, and enrichment opportunities.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure instructional practices align with MTSS structures and school-wide academic goals.
  • Facilitate data meetings and instructional planning cycles that center equity, student growth, and targeted instructional responses.
  • Monitor academic progress across classrooms and grade levels, identifying trends, strengths, and areas for instructional improvement.
  • Partner with assistant principals and specialized services leadership to ensure cohesive academic and intervention programming for all learners.
  • Conduct formal and informal observations of instructional staff, providing timely, actionable feedback aligned to the school's instructional framework.
  • Support new and developing teachers through mentoring, modeling, and structured coaching supports.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to support evaluation processes, professional growth plans, and instructional accountability.
  • Support the development of a positive, academically focused school culture that promotes high expectations, joy in learning, and strong student engagement.
  • Partner with families and staff to communicate academic expectations, instructional goals, and student progress.
  • Collaborate closely with the School Leader and leadership team to advance school-wide initiatives and strategic priorities.
