About The Position

An assistant preschool teacher will support the lead teacher in creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment for preschool-aged children, helping with lesson planning, organizing activities, and managing the classroom. This role involves assisting in implementing a curriculum that promotes social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through hands-on activities and play-based learning. The assistant will collaborate closely with the lead teacher and communicate with parents and caregivers to support each child's individual growth and celebrate their milestones. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated to contributing positively to the development of young learners in a supportive and imaginative setting.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of child development and educational best practices
  • Ability to create age-appropriate lesson plans and learning activities
  • Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with children
  • Experience working with children 2-5
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with children, parents, and staff
  • Ability to solve problems as they arise
  • Must be dependable, energetic, and have a positive attitude
  • Ability to enforce Park District rules and safety practices
  • Certified in CPR/AED and First Aid is required

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or related field

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing age-appropriate lesson plans and activities for preschool-aged children.
  • Support the creation of a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all students.
  • Supervise children in indoor and outdoor settings, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Help facilitate social, emotional, and cognitive development through interactive play and structured activities.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians about children's progress and needs as directed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan and coordinate special events and programs.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and children’s development under supervision.
  • Promote positive behavior and assist in conflict resolution among students.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the classroom and outdoor areas.
  • Support children’s artistic and practical skill development through curriculum activities.
  • Help establish and maintain positive relationships with families via meetings, newsletters, and events.
  • Incorporate creative arts, music, and movement into daily activities to foster self-expression.
  • Work collaboratively with the Lead Instructor and Recreation Supervisor to support classroom goals.
