Salary: $17.00 to $19.00 per hour, DOE Employment Status: This is a seasonal, temporary assignment filled through a third-party staffing agency. Individuals in this role are not City employees and do not exercise independent managerial authority. Job Summary: Under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator, this position supports the Aquatics Coordinator and daily pool operations, helping to create a safe and fun environment for all patrons, and provides on-site operational oversight during the Aquatics Coordinator’s absence, in accordance with established policies and procedures and without independent managerial authority. Provides on-site operational oversight during Aquatic Coordinator’s absence, following established procedures and without independent authority over staffing, discipline, budgeting, or policy decisions. Assists with swim lesson registrations, open swim check-ins, answering phones and questions from patrons, emergencies, swim test administration, maintaining a safe and clean pool deck, pool, and facility. Supervises seasonal lifeguards and swim lesson instructors while on shift and under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator. Assists Aquatics Coordinator with scheduling, timesheets, evaluations, staff training, or in-services. Maintain professional working relationships and appropriate boundaries with seasonal staff and patrons. Performs general pool maintenance and maintains proper chemical balance in pool. Attend seasonal staff training, meetings, and in-services. Fully comprehends all pool policies and procedures in place and can confidently explain them to any individual inquiring. Communicate any safety concerns to Aquatics Coordinator, or Recreation Superintendent immediately, as staff and patron safety holds top priority. Helps assign daily cleaning tasks to staff on shift and assist with any cleaning or maintenance task assigned on deck or in the facility. Fully knowledgeable in Swim Lesson curriculum and capable of teaching swim lessons, filling in for lessons, conducting lesson instructor evaluations, and training new instructors. Familiarizes oneself with REC1’s software to assist Aquatics Coordinator with swim lesson registration, answers any questions regarding swim lessons, and helps with setting up accounts, processing transactions, refunds, and transfers throughout the season. Ability to be patient, communicate clearly and respectfully with all patrons including children, while working in the front office, out on the pool deck, during swim lessons, swim team, at all times. Appropriately represents the Meridian Pool, and the City of Meridian in a positive manner. Helps Aquatic Coordinator oversee, and ensure that staff is provided with all equipment and supplies needed for guarding, lessons, maintenance, etc. Assists Aquatic Coordinator with evaluating all potential lifeguards and filing appropriate paperwork with Ellis and Associates. Examples: Administering, and grading written certification exams, staff certification coursework, Inservice logs, incident reports, audits, etc. Punctual and reliable attendance to all shifts, meetings, training, etc. Possesses self-initiative to help as needed throughout facility – whether by Aquatics Coordinator, Lifeguard, Lesson Instructor, Maintenance, City employee, etc. Attends individual seasonal staff member meetings, evaluations, and disciplinary action discussions, in a support and documentation capacity only, at the discretion of the Aquatics Coordinator. Assists Aquatics Coordinator with developing policies for lifeguards, follows policies and enforce policies for all staff members (leads by example). Assists Aquatics Coordinator with training and certifying all staff, as well as completing any other needed preseason preparation. Become familiar with software, create classes, oversee completion of all lifeguard and lesson instructor coursework, and communicate accordingly with local staffing agency representatives. Assist Aquatics Coordinator with scheduling via When I Work to ensure a fair and balanced workload among all seasonal staff members. Help conduct Lifeguard and Swim Lesson instructor evaluations and provide any additional training after reviewing evaluations with each staff member. In the absence of the Aquatics Coordinator – and with permission from Aquatics Coordinator, the Assistant Manager is responsible for conducting necessary White Caps, or individuals on stand who either: Have not been evaluated on Lifeguard performance recently or Are not meeting Ellis's standards, ultimately reflecting poorly upon oneself and the facility as a whole - in turn, placing patrons at risk. Assistant Manager communicates any disagreements or differing opinions in an open, honest, non-biased and non-aggressive manner. Run cash register in front of the office during business hours and assist with daily till opening and closure procedures as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
