About The Position

At Gold Star, we offer feed and nutrition services and commodity trading in the northeastern U.S., primarily to dairies. As feed and commodity specialists, our customers count on us to originate feed for the mills, manufacture it according to their unique specifications and handle logistics for a safe and smooth delivery every time. Job Summary: The Assistant Plant Manager trains to oversee all aspects of production, delivery, maintenance, and customer service for the feed mill operations. In collaboration with Plant Manager they will provide day to day support to the feed mill. The Assistant Plant Manager will follow all JDH safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • College degree in Agribusiness or related field is preferred, but not required.
  • 1 year feed mill supervisory experience preferred. Extensive exposure to batch feed manufacturing, pelleting, grain processing, and truck operations.
  • High level of detail, multi-tasking, analytical, and problem-solving skills with intuition to create solutions.
  • Positive, self-motivated individual with organization, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Communication skills – listen, provide feedback both verbally and in writing.
  • Teamwork skills – build a positive, safe work environment with the goal of low turn-over.
  • Leadership skills – demonstrate passion for the job and build the vision for the future.
  • Strong customer service commitment.
  • Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds, climb 75 feet of ladder, and be able to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, dust)
  • Must be able to function in a loud, industrial setting with background machinery noise
  • Ability to navigate an office environment.
  • Regular and predictable attendance in office or site location.
  • Job may require occasional travel within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently coordinate and manage production practices to ensure efficient, quality-controlled feed is produced in a safe working environment.
  • Maintain Safe Feed/Safe Food procedures and certification. Follow all Current GMPs.
  • Maintain inventory balances and quality assurance.
  • Test and summarize quality control data and share with General Manager and Feed Business Manager.
  • Interview, hire, and train employees.
  • Manage employees to be effective on the job and to grow professionally. Track employee accountability.
  • Lead the entire team and support their growth and development.
  • Drive a culture of safety, accountability, opportunistic curiosity and contributes to creating an environment where people want to work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
