About The Position

Coordinates permit process and provide customer service to the public, developers, contractors, architects, engineers, etc. at the counter, over the telephone and via email. Performs review of building permits and planning applications, including variances, conditional uses, historic preservation, rezone requests, and other private development processes related to assigned area; creates technical reports and makes presentations for the boards, commissions, council, staff and the public.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Geography, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Skill in organizing, prioritizing, and accomplishing work within required timeframes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with architects, developers, attorneys, contractors, engineers, elected officials, community members, and City staff.
  • Knowledge of state and City of Prescott rules, regulations, policies, principles, practices, procedures, codes, and ordinances related to municipal planning and historic preservation.
  • Skill in working on several projects or issues simultaneously, efficiently organizing tasks, and creative problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of municipal infrastructure, building, site design, research methodology, statistical techniques, and database applications utilized in planning.
  • Skill in identifying and coordinating current planning issues with other departments, agencies, developers, consultants, citizen groups, and the public.
  • Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing, for individuals and groups.
  • Skill in using established Department software programs for the processing of planning, permitting, and plan review elements of Community Development applications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general planning and zoning permit process information, as well as projected time frames of plan review for internal and external customers.
  • Process all planning projects, track plan review process, and monitor the status of plan reviews.
  • Staff liaison and recording secretary for the Boards, Commissioners, and Committee (BCC) meetings including Board of Adjustment, Prescott Preservation Commission, and Planning and Zoning Commission.
  • Research planning issues and prepare recommendations.
  • Respond to public and staff requests for information and process public record requests.
  • Answers planning questions from citizens, developers, and other interested parties.
  • Analyzes and processes building permits, variances, conditional uses, historic preservation, and other private development processes as required.
  • Prepares and presents technical staff reports for the Board of Adjustment, Prescott Preservation Commission, and other boards, commissions, citizen committees, and City Council.
  • Design and prepare illustrative, graphic, and narrative presentation materials for public hearings and meetings.
  • Utilizes the City's mapping programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
