The Department of Buildings has an essential role in the One NYC 2050 Plan for a Strong and Fair City, Climate Mobilization Act, and One City-Built to Last citywide initiatives; we are focused on energy efficiency in New York City buildings. A foundation of these initiatives is enforcement of the New York City Energy Conservation Code, since energy consumption in NYC buildings contributes nearly three-quarters of our greenhouse gas emissions. The Department of Buildings is a City agency responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties by enforcing the Building Code, the Zoning Resolution, and the Energy Code. We facilitate compliant development with integrity, efficiency, and professionalism.
