About The Position

Hiring for a male-only position due to parolee privacy involved in the duty assignments. Are you an effective communicator who enjoys working with others? Are you interested in a career in public safety or social work? The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services' (NDCS) Community Supervision Services division is seeking an Assistant Parole Officer (APO) to provide technical support to the Lincoln area Parole Officers and to serve as the Lincoln office's drug technician. Candidates for this position must be male in order to comply with the established NDCS Supervision Drug and Alcohol Testing Protocol. The position will involve minimal travel around the Lancaster, Gage, Seward, Saline, Johnson, Otoe, Richardson, and Saunders County area. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. However, this role requires scheduling flexibility; hours may shift to a mid-shift (12:00 PM – 8:00 PM) based on operational needs or to provide direct support to officers and clients. Requirements

  • Coursework/training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; or areas related to the programs and functions of the employing agency OR experience in customer service or public contact; or applying criteria/regulations; and/or performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including use of personal computers and office equipment.
  • Parolee privacy involved in the duty assignments require the position to be filled by male staff members only.
  • This position requires travel.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Applicant accepting a job offer must pass the following exams in this order: medical exam and, at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test.
  • Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or Social Sciences.
  • Demonstrated prior substance abuse or chemical testing training.
  • Experience working with justice-involved individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, test, and report/enter results of drug test samples from male clients.
  • Notify clients and Parole Officers of positive drug test results and follow established chain
  • Manage and maintain GPS inventory, install monitors for new clients, and provide technical assistance to officers regarding client GPS issues.
  • Maintain drug testing supplies and inventory.
  • Assist Parole Officers in making follow up calls with entities or persons associated with clients for information verification.
  • Assist with paperwork administration.
  • Monitor curfew checks and electronic monitors via computer.
  • Assist as backup in the field as needed.
