About The Position

The Assistant Pantry Manager supports daily food pantry operations through hands-on execution, client intake support, volunteer coordination, inventory flow, and facility readiness. This role is highly client-facing and ensures a dignified, organized, and welcoming pantry experience. The safety of our employees is a primary concern of Switchpoint. Employees are expected to follow OSHA proper lifting techniques and safe-lifting ergonomics while on the job.

Requirements

  • Non-profit work experience preferred
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Previous food pantry experience or related experience preferred
  • Motivated self-starter with strong attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal communication abilities
  • Clean driving record
  • Excellent written, verbal, computer, and documentation skills
  • Proven organizational and follow-up skills
  • Comfortable working with diverse clients, volunteers, staff, and other service providers
  • Ability to handle a range of client and volunteer situations calmly, professionally, and respectfully
  • Ability to effectively and appropriately represent the agency to the public
  • Ability to apply common sense in carrying out instructions
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and database software required
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handler’s Permit as required by Utah state agencies
  • Must be able to lift, carry, unload, and move food products up to 50 lbs

Responsibilities

  • Daily Pantry Operations
  • Open pantry for grocery rescue, volunteers, and pantry staff
  • Move food racks from walk-in fridge to store areas
  • Sort, stock, and rotate food and bread from grocery rescue
  • Monitor and adjust store card quantities daily
  • Help maintain front lobby cleanliness
  • Client Intake & Support
  • Welcome clients and assist with intake and file updates per Utah Food Bank/Switchpoint guidelines
  • Assess client eligibility (housing, income, household status)
  • Explain pantry process (vouchers, hygiene items, and shelter resources)
  • Retrieve hygiene items as needed
  • Document client visits accurately in the Food Pantry Assistance Program
  • Support clients with empathy, dignity, and respect
  • Volunteer & Partner Coordination
  • Welcome, assign, and support volunteers
  • Provide clear instructions and job assignments
  • Work alongside volunteers from multiple organizations
  • Express appreciation and recognition for volunteer contributions
  • Inventory & Food Preparation
  • Sort and prepare monthly sack lunches
  • Box prior-month lunches for shelter delivery
  • Assist with restocking and food organization throughout the day
  • Facility & End-of-Day Responsibilities
  • Secure all files at the end of the day
  • Return food racks to walk-in fridge
  • Ensure lights, HVAC, and doors are secured
  • Support Switchpoint facility needs as assigned
  • Lifting, carrying, unloading and moving food products of up to 50+ lbs
  • Review and Follow: OSHA Guidelines for Safe Lifting
  • Recordkeeping and Reporting:
  • Report critical incident(s) immediately to Regional Director.
  • Collects data necessary to meet funding requirements and statistical reports.
