About The Position

The Department of Communication of the Community and Technical College (CTC) at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is seeking a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Communication. The position is tripartite, with a workload consisting of 60% instruction, 20% research, and 20% service. The Department offers a thriving BA in Communication that commenced in Fall 2022, a minor in Communication, and four courses fulfilling the University Communication General Education Requirement (GER). The ideal candidate will be integral in advancing the Communication BA program and be prepared to take a leadership role in the Department, including on Department Committees. The Department seeks a candidate committed to a collegial climate, motivated to teach in person, skilled in online pedagogy, and who engages undergraduate students in collaborative research. The candidate will be qualified to teach a breadth of Communication courses, including our GER courses: Fundamentals of Oral Communication, Small Group Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking; our core major courses: Communication Theories, Intercultural Communication or Communication and Gender, Communication Research Methods, and Persuasion; and selected electives; engage students and the community in their research; have a demonstrated commitment to student success, excellence, diversity and possess strong interpersonal and collaborative skills. Candidates should hold a Doctorate in Communication or a closely related field, have experience teaching college-level Communication courses both in-person and online, and demonstrate a record or strong potential for research and scholarly publication.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Communication or related field.
  • ABD considered with evidence of completion by the time of appointment.

  • To be eligible for this position, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction. Applicants who now or may in the future require visa sponsorship to work in the United States are not eligible.
