About The Position

Stoneman 5 is a 24‑bed inpatient surgical unit specializing in Ortho GYN, GYN Oncology, and GU surgery. The unit provides high‑quality post‑operative care to a diverse surgical population and is preparing for an exciting transition to an oncology‑focused model through an upcoming collaboration with Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute. This is a dynamic environment ideal for nurses passionate about surgical care, oncology, and clinical leadership. The Assistant Nursing Director supports daily operations, quality initiatives, and staff development on Stoneman 5. This role provides leadership in the delivery of nursing services, actively coordinates and triages patient care across disciplines, and serves as a liaison between multiple departments. The AND works closely with the Nursing Director to ensure safe, high‑quality care as the unit evolves into its future oncology‑aligned model. Schedule: Four 10‑hour shifts per week. Preferred hours: 11:00 AM–9:30 PM or 12:00 PM–10:30 PM. Flexibility required This role is an excellent opportunity for a motivated nurse leader looking to advance their nursing career!

Requirements

• BSN required; Masters preferred.
• 3+ years acute care nursing experience; leadership or charge experience preferred.
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and team‑building skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
• Master's degree in Nursing preferred.
• License Registered Nurse required., and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.
• 3-5 years related work experience required and 0-1 years supervisory/management experience required
• Demonstrated Leadership Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and triage patient care and clinical workflows across all surgical and oncology‑related disciplines.
• Support daily operations including staffing, resource management, and patient flow.
• Act as a liaison between nursing, surgery, oncology, and support departments to ensure seamless care transitions.
• Support quality improvement, safety initiatives, and evidence‑based practice.
• Mentor, coach, and support nursing staff; assist with onboarding and development.
• Help prepare the unit and team for the upcoming transition to an oncology care focus.
• Manages and assesses the day to day operations of the department including: patient volume and level of acuity, critical care needs, hospital throughput, staff and physician concerns. Takes appropriate action to address outstanding issues.
• Provides clinical consultation to nurses or directs them to other resources.
• Communicates and interprets changes in nursing practice activities and standards of care, including competency development.
• Collaborates and communicates with other clinical staff to assure seamless progression of care to meet patient care needs.
• Under the guidance of the nursing director manages the hiring for RNs and support staff; completes annual reviews for RNs and support staff; oversees staff scheduling/ staffing and payroll, begins initial counseling for practice issues.
• Participates/ actively contributes in Faculty Hours and other quality and safety departmental initiatives.
• Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities.
• Has authority to undertake or recommend the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews.
