Fairview Hospital's Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) provides care to patients who may benefit from extended care. The design of this unit is to discharge or admit patients within 18 hours, starting from when the patient arrives. As an Assistant Nurse Manager, you will assist fellow RNs, physicians and medical staff in providing the best possible healthcare experience. Your work will mainly focus on evaluating patient condition, improving unit policies, managing caregiver schedules and welcoming new nurses to the team. A caregiver in this role works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Two years of recent clinical nursing experience
  • Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills

Responsibilities

  • Support the Nurse Manager with supervising and supporting RNs and other nursing support caregivers.
  • Supervise admissions, conduct assessment of patient's needs and initiate nursing care plans.
  • Evaluate and document patient progress.
  • Facilitate the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiatives and objectives for the unit.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.
  • Serve as a liaison between the manager, caregivers and other areas within the organization.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit.
  • Prepare schedule of work assignments assuring adequate coverage.
  • Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives.
  • Assist in orienting new caregivers.
  • Participate in continuing education and in-service educational programs.
