Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital's Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is a 26-bed nursing unit that provides treatment to patients suffering from various medical problems, such as sepsis, altered mental status, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), stroke, and post-cardiac arrest hypothermia, as well as monitors patients requiring suicide and overdose monitoring. As an Assistant Nurse Manager on this team, you will assist fellow RNs, physicians and medical staff in providing the best possible healthcare experience. Your work will mainly focus on evaluating patient condition, improving unit policies, managing caregiver schedules and welcoming new nurses to the team. A caregiver in this role works a day/night rotation from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Two years of recent RN experience
  • Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Nursing Assistant/NAE inpatient hospital experience
  • New graduate who has completed an ICU practicum

Responsibilities

  • Support the Nurse Manager with supervising and supporting RNs and other nursing support caregivers.
  • Supervise admissions, conduct assessment of patient's needs and initiate nursing care plans.
  • Evaluate and document patient progress.
  • Facilitate the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiatives and objectives for the unit.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.
  • Serve as a liaison between the manager, caregivers and other areas within the organization.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit.
  • Prepare schedule of work assignments assuring adequate coverage.
  • Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives.
  • Assist in orienting new caregivers.
  • Participate in continuing education and in-service educational programs.
  • Assist in orienting new personnel, continuing education and in-service educational programs.
