About The Position

The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in overseeing daily meat department operations to ensure high standards of product quality, food safety, customer service, and associate performance. This role helps manage production, merchandising, inventory, and compliance while developing associates and supporting department and store goals.

Requirements

  • Previous meat department, fresh food, or retail experience preferred
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Knowledge of meat cutting, food safety, and inventory practices
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to lead in a fast‑paced, fresh food environment
  • Ability to lift, cut, and handle product within company weight guidelines
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments for extended periods
  • Flexible availability including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Support daily meat department operations including cutting, wrapping, merchandising, and product rotation
  • Ensure all meat products meet company quality, freshness, and presentation standards
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory control, and shrink reduction
  • Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations at all times
  • Support execution of company planograms, promotions, and seasonal programs
  • Monitor sales, labor, and department performance and assist with corrective actions
  • Address customer questions, special orders, and concerns promptly and professionally
  • Step into department leadership responsibilities in the Meat Manager’s absence
  • Assist in supervising, training, and coaching meat department associates
  • Reinforce expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and customer service
  • Lead by example to promote teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence
  • Support onboarding and skill development of new associates
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and rotation of all meat products
  • Follow all company policies, food safety guidelines, and equipment use standards
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of cutting equipment, tools, and refrigeration
  • Complete required logs, temperature checks, and department documentation accurately

  • Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans.
