About The Position

The Assistant Manager is responsible for supervising and actively participating in the efficient and profitable operation of the market centre. This role oversees key facility functions including receiving, cleaning, drying, storing, shipping, and quality control activities. By coordinating staff, managing inventories, monitoring costs, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards, the Assistant Manager plays a vital role in driving operational efficiency, product integrity, and strong customer relationships.

Requirements

  • Post‑secondary degree in Agri‑Business.
  • Minimum four (4) years of related supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grain regulations and industry policies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to plan, organize, and coordinate staff activities effectively.
  • WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification required.
  • Physical ability to perform duties within a grain elevator environment, including good eyesight and color perception.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate in all facility operations, including receiving, cleaning, drying, storing, and shipping of products.
  • Assign, supervise, and evaluate staff performance, ensuring work activities are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule; provide input into employee performance reviews.
  • Monitor product condition and quality, ensuring all products meet end‑user specifications and customer requirements.
  • Maintain a current understanding of customer and end‑user requirements to ensure product compliance.
  • Ensure processing and warehousing standards are met, maintaining compliance with quality controls, ISO, and HACCP requirements.
  • Monitor facility and processing costs, recommending improvements to enhance operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Logistics teams to ensure adequate inventory levels to meet shipping requirements.
  • Maintain samples of processed grain inventories for quality verification and tracking.
  • Conduct regular housekeeping and maintenance inspections, ensuring facility cleanliness and performance standards are met.
  • Coordinate operations with maintenance teams to optimize equipment performance and operating results.
  • Perform regular inventory checks to ensure proper warehousing and product maintenance.
  • Promote strong customer relationships by delivering high service levels and ensuring shipment quality.
  • Support cross‑training and coverage, performing other operational roles during staff absences to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as required to support safe and efficient facility operations.
