About The Position

The Assistant Manager will lead day-to-day operations of The Family Place Resale Shop, driving revenue generation through strategic merchandise management, visual merchandising excellence, and exceptional customer service. As Assistant Manager, you'll coordinate merchandise displays, oversee point-of-sale operations, manage pricing strategy, train staff and volunteers, develop donor relationships, and process vouchers for survivors. You'll model leadership excellence through active listening, clear communication, empathetic conflict resolution, and a positive, team-focused attitude. You'll also evaluate market trends, optimize sales floor performance, coordinate donation drives, and ensure operational excellence that maximizes revenue to fund life-saving domestic violence services. Making independent decisions that keep operations running smoothly while creating a welcoming environment for customers, donors, and survivors accessing our voucher program.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent education through work experience and at least 2 years of equivalent experience working in a retail environment, sorting merchandise, and assisting customers.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a Supervisor position is required.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and a clear driving record.
  • Knowledge of basic retail store inventory, merchandising, and production.
  • Ability to organize, sort, and categorize items.
  • Ability to represent TFP positively by providing excellent customer service at all times and serving as a role model to staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to be a team player and have a friendly and engaging personality with customers and clients.
  • Ability to instruct new employees and/or volunteers in the operational procedures and explain the policies as related to the job, as requested.
  • Effective oral and written communication with staff, volunteers, and the public.
  • Ability to pick up and unload donations and work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to run a cash register and perform all cash/check/credit card transactions.
  • Ability to work weekends.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision.
  • Retail staff should be able to be on their feet for most of the day and will be required to lift large amounts of stock. Work may require pulling and carrying up to 50 pounds, frequent bending, climbing stairs, and reaching.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate sales and donation efforts, reviewing performance metrics and operational needs.
  • Create attractive, well-organized sales floor displays that drive customer engagement and sales.
  • Ensure the sales floor maintains a secure, clean, and convenient layout with strategic merchandise rotation.
  • Evaluate market trends and competitive pricing, adjusting strategies to maximize revenue.
  • Monitor daily workflow and team performance, providing support and coverage as needed.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty in the absence of the Resale Shop Manager.
  • Oversee point-of-sale staffing and ensure efficient checkout operations.
  • Track operational data and prepare timely, accurate reports.
  • Assist with interviewing, screening, and evaluating volunteer placements.
  • Provide training to staff and volunteers on policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Communicate with community service organization liaisons regarding volunteer coordination.
  • Coach team members to ensure compliance and performance standards.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, answering phones and correspondence professionally.
  • Assist customers with merchandise questions and process sales transactions.
  • Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Identify and develop relationships with donors for goods and services.
  • Coordinate donation drives, including receipt, distribution, and reporting of donated items.
  • Serve as liaison between Resale Shop and donor community.
  • Cultivate ongoing donor relationships to support sustainable giving.
  • Work with clients and staff to coordinate and process merchandise vouchers for survivors.
  • Ensure trauma-informed, dignified service for clients accessing the voucher program.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect when serving survivors.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
