About The Position

Under the direction, of the Manager of Beaches and Pools, assists in the managing and supervising of aquatics operations, programs and events at aquatic natatoriums, outdoor pools and beaches district wide. Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Exercise Science or related discipline supplemented by four years of progressively responsible open water safety, rescue experience and aquatic programming experience including 2 years in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
  • Knowledge of Aquatics theories, principles, best practices, trends and sports rules and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of lifesaving techniques, water safety and surf beach methods and techniques.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Skill in applying effective supervisory techniques and methods.
  • Organizational skills. Skill in policy guidelines.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • It is preferred that candidates possess the following valid certifications from the American Red Cross or nationally recognized organization at time of hire: Lifeguard Instructor, Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Management.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with direct oversight for the day-to-day operations of all park district beach and pool locations.
  • Plans, organizes and directs personnel recruitment, selection, training and work assignments.
  • Works collaboratively with Park Supervisors monitoring the activities of staff responsible for supervising, teaching, leading and guarding aquatics activities and events.
  • In the absence of the Manager, assumes full responsibility for the beach and pool program.
  • Assists in the development of seminars to train and orient Chicago Park District aquatic staff.
  • Assists in the development of written policy guidelines, safety manuals, handouts on new programs and other resource materials.
  • Reviews and evaluates pool and beach program content and delivery.
  • Initiates quality improvements and interest and participation in aquatics programs.
  • Assists with the acquisition and maintenance of aquatics equipment.
  • Maintains appropriate records and information related to the unit’s finances.
  • Provides assistance and advice on matters relating to beach and pool design.
