About The Position

The Assistant Manager-in-Training assists the store manager in effectively managing the retail store to achieve sales goals and manage the expense budget. Key responsibilities include performing store opening and closing duties, handling banking procedures, and reconciling daily business statements. This role involves training and supervising store employees in retail procedures, ensuring excellent customer service, and maintaining store standards for housekeeping, safety, and security. The individual will also manage stocking, display, and inventory, perform merchandise ordering, and accurately complete various reports. They are responsible for enforcing retail sales and donation policies, ensuring quality control standards are met, and assisting with employee scheduling. The position requires a flexible schedule, adherence to the company dress code, and a proactive approach to offering suggestions and making decisions that contribute to the store's growth. Additionally, the Assistant Manager-in-Training supports equal opportunity employment efforts, prevents harassment, and assists with conducting store meetings. In the absence of the store manager, this role assumes direct supervision of employees and volunteers, carrying out responsibilities such as interviewing, training, planning work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and resolving complaints.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to pass random drug screens.
  • Knowledge of cash register procedures, stock control, banking procedures, merchandising, and display.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees in cashiering, banking, stock, and display.
  • Ability to supervise and train in shipping/receiving functions, stock duties, merchandising, cashiering, and customer service at retail locations.
  • Must maintain the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Provide own transportation and adequate liability insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the store manager in managing the retail store effectively to achieve sales goals and manage expense budget.
  • Assist store manager with managing budgeted sales and expense to revenue (E/R).
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively perform the duties of opening and closing the store as needed.
  • Perform banking procedures, including reconciliation of Daily Business Statements and deposit slips.
  • Train and supervise store employees in retail procedures.
  • Display and model excellent customer service.
  • Ensure store is maintained in accordance with company policies on housekeeping, safety, and security.
  • Perform stocking, display, and inventory duties.
  • Perform merchandise ordering as assigned.
  • Complete reports accurately as assigned, including donation counts, mark-downs, timecards, readings, daily business statements, deposits, and cash drawer.
  • Enforce retail sales and donation policy and procedures according to the retail procedures manual.
  • Perform sales functions of stock rotation, merchandising, display, and product efficiently and productively.
  • Ensure retail quality control standards are met (textiles, misc., and furniture) and all employees are knowledgeable of the criteria.
  • Assist with scheduling of employees to achieve optimum staffing in accordance with budget.
  • Follow the dress code as set by Goodwill and set a professional example for employees.
