About The Position

The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities is a residential school for academically gifted high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors and is located on the on the campus of Ball State University. The Indiana Academy welcomes applications for a full-time contract position for the upcoming academic year, renewable based on satisfactory job performance. Anticipated assignments include three sections per semester (12 credit hours) of survey or topical courses in AP Chemistry, General Chemistry, and other Chemistry electives, in addition to Colloquium, student advising, or other service requirements. Chemistry electives that match the candidate's specialty are possible. Student needs and teacher experience determine the final course load. Indiana Academy faculty, ranked in the top 10 in the nation (2026 Niche.com rankings) among public high school faculty, have the opportunity to create unique courses tailored to their areas of specialization. Faculty work together across disciplines to provide a one-of-a-kind education to Indiana’s high-ability students that includes AP, dual-credit, and specialty courses. Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Chemistry or a related field, or a Master's degree in another field with 18 graduate credit hours in Chemistry or Chemistry-related courses
  • previous teaching experience at the secondary level or undergraduate collegiate level
  • ability to receive dual credit certification to teach CHEM 100, CHEM 111, and CHEM 112

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution in Chemistry or a related field
  • significant previous teaching experience at the secondary or undergraduate collegiate level
  • qualified to teach courses in other disciplines, such as biology, computer science, physics, mathematics, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 12 credit hours each in fall and spring semesters of topical courses in AP Chemistry, General Chemistry, and other Chemistry electives, in addition to Colloquium, student advising , or other service requirements.
  • Chemistry electives that match the candidate's specialty are possible. Student needs and teacher experience determine the final course load.
  • Teach a colloquium or be assigned a service duty each semester.
