SUMMARY: The Assistant Laser Welding Operator is responsible for supporting the Laser Welding Operator in daily production activities involving laser deposition and welding equipment. Key responsibilities include staging and verifying materials, loading powder, maintaining cleanliness of equipment and workspace, and helping monitor the process. The assistant plays a critical role in maintaining production continuity, documenting activity, and ensuring safety compliance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with preparation and staging of plate materials for laser welding operations. Support the setup process by verifying correct materials, powder types, and documentation. Load powder into the laser system under the direction of the Laser Welding Operator. Clean machine components as part of routine maintenance tasks. Monitor basic system indicators and communicate abnormalities to the operator or supervisor. Remove finished products and assist with proper storage and material handling procedures. Maintain accurate documentation of material used, activity performed, and inspection checks. Keep the laser welding area clean and organized in accordance with housekeeping and 5S standards. Adhere strictly to safety protocols including use of PPE, powder handling procedures, and equipment safeguards. Participate in cross-training and support continuous improvement initiatives. EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND PROFICIENCIES: High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in manufacturing or material handling is helpful but not required. Must be able to read and follow basic instructions, including work orders and safety guidelines. Basic math skills are necessary, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. A commitment to safety, dependability, and teamwork is essential. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Six months or more experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly in material handling or fabrication. Familiarity with overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material handling equipment is a plus. Exposure to interpreting blueprints or working with CNC machinery is helpful but not required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will encounter repetitive movement tasks, requiring standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, grasping, pushing, and pulling grating material of various sizes and weights for long periods of time. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds, using proper lifting techniques, help from another employee, or other available resources such as lifting or moving equipment. The role also requires the ability to take stairs, work around constantly moving machinery, and exposure to weather elements. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee will be regularly working on the production floor, requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Exposure to noise, dust, heat, and cold is regular, as is exposure to machine and tool hazards requiring care and attention to safety rules and standards.
