About The Position

The Assistant Kitchen Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the kitchen in the absence of the Kitchen Manager. They will oversee kitchen staff, ensure quality control of all food items, and maintain a clean and organized work environment. The Assistant Kitchen Manager will also be responsible for menu planning and development, food costing and inventory control. They will work closely with the Kitchen Manager to ensure the kitchen is running smoothly and efficiently. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a fast paced kitchen, preferably in a managerial role. They must have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work well under pressure.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an assistant kitchen manager or similar role in a restaurant
  • Working knowledge of professional kitchen equipment and procedures
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Outstanding communication ability
  • Up-to-date with culinary trends and optimized kitchen processes
  • Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary school degree
  • Professional certification (e.g. ServSafe)
  • 2+ years in a managerial role in a kitchen
  • Hands-on experience with inventory management and Vista POS

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Kitchen Manager in all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu development, food preparation, and cooking
  • Ensure that all food is prepared and cooked to the highest standards set by the Kitchen Manager
  • Assist with ordering supplies and maintaining inventory levels
  • Help to train new kitchen staff members in proper food preparation, food handling techniques, safety procedures, and knife skills
  • Enforce sanitation standards and maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Monitor food waste-management and take steps to implement processes to reduce waste
  • Create weekly schedules for kitchen staff
  • Assist with the inventory process and ensure all par levels in coolers and freezers are stocked
  • Handle customer complaints in a professional and efficient manner
  • Perform opening and closing duties as needed
  • Adhere to all local health and safety regulations
