Primary Purpose The Assistant Instructor supports the DNAP program in academic, simulation, and clinical education activities. This position is designed for an individual actively completing a doctoral degree (e.g., DNP, DNAP, PhD, EdD) with the strategic intent of transitioning into a full Faculty role upon successful completion of the degree. This is an immediate hire to provide instructional continuity during a faculty member's leave of absence. The role carries substantial academic and simulation responsibilities and functions under the mentorship of senior faculty and the Program Director, with progressive advancement aligned to doctoral completion and demonstrated academic performance.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of COA accreditation standards and nurse anesthesia program requirements.
  • Ability to deliver structured instruction and facilitate clinical reasoning discussions.
  • Competence in simulation-based education and debriefing techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in academic documentation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate within interdisciplinary academic and clinical teams.
  • Professional maturity consistent with faculty-track expectations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to scholarly growth and academic advancement.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Nurse Anesthesia or related field.
  • Enrollment in and active progression toward completion of a doctoral degree from an accredited institution. (DNP, DNAP, PhD, EdD or equivalent).
  • Active, unencumbered RN license (if CRNA).
  • Active NBCRNA certification (if applicable).
  • Compliance with state and institutional credentialing requirements.
  • Active clinical practice as a CRNA or a physician anesthesiologist with broad case exposure.
  • Experience teaching, precepting, or mentoring students in clinical or academic settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed doctoral degree from an accredited institution. (Required for transition to faculty)
  • Prior higher education teaching experience.
  • Experience in high-fidelity simulation and debriefing methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of didactic instruction within assigned DNAP courses under faculty supervision.
  • Participate in simulation laboratory instruction, debriefing, and skills evaluation.
  • Support student assessment activities, including grading, OSCE participation, and formative evaluation.
  • Provide academic mentoring and advising support to students as assigned.
  • Collaborate in curriculum implementation consistent with COA accreditation standards.
  • Assist with course preparation, instructional materials, and learning management system (LMS) management.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, programmatic planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to ongoing program evaluation and accreditation documentation efforts.
  • Engage in scholarly development activities aligned with progression toward faculty appointment.
  • Maintain clinical practice (if applicable) sufficient to support academic credibility and specialty instruction.
