About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) II serves as an AltaMed ambassador at the assigned clinic, Patient Service Center (PSC), or Patient Registry team. This role focuses on creating a positive patient experience by being welcoming, attentive, and managing expectations with compassion and respect. The MA II assists in direct patient care by performing routine procedures and providing technical/clerical support in a clinical setting. Key aspects include building patient relationships, documenting specialties in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), and assisting with administrative tasks, including providing feedback on Back-Office processes to the Nursing Supervisor/Manager. Additionally, the MA II supports department goals by mentoring and training the Medical Assistant team. For those working at the Patient Service Center, the role also involves performing duties over the telephone.

Requirements

  • A Medical Assistant certificate
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum requirement of a valid BLS certification or higher, following the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross guidelines

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a back office Medical Assistant preferred in the outpatient setting, medical practice, or clinic setting
  • Phlebotomy certified preferred
  • Nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification, preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish/Mandarin/Cantonese, depending on location, strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Function as an AltaMed ambassador at the assigned clinic, PSC, or Patient Registry team
  • Be welcoming and attentive to the needs of all patients
  • Create a positive patient experience by managing expectations while demonstrating compassion and respect
  • Assist in the provision of direct patient care by performing routine patient care procedures and technical/clerical support services in the clinical setting
  • Build relationships with patients, listening to them and gaining their trust
  • Demonstrate compassion and respect and be proactive in managing patients’ expectations
  • Document all specialties in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Assist with administrative responsibilities that include providing feedback on Back-Office processes to the Nursing Supervisor/Manager
  • Assist in achieving department goals and objectives by providing support and guidance to the Medical Assistant team as a mentor and trainer
  • Provide other duties over the telephone if working at the Patient Service Center
