About The Position

The Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer serves as the Assistant Chief, Environmental Management Services (EMS) and senior management on EMS program concerns. The program responsibilities encompass seven functional areas in the service, Control Janitorial Maintenance Services, Environmental Rounds, Interior Design, Linen/Uniform Management, Patient Effects, Pest Control, Signage Program, and Special Events. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Develops and provides Medical Center management and clinical staff information on methods, techniques, and procedures necessary to integrate the Environment Management Services (EMS) programs in to the mission of the Medical Center. Develops and prepares the annual EMS budget allocate available funding to various functions within EMS. Inspects the facilities on a routine (daily/weekly) basis to ensure compliance the facility operations and maintenance requirements of VHA, TJC, NFPA, EPA, OSHA, CDC and other regulatory bodies. Responsible for the effective management of the following programs: Janitorial Maintenance Services, Environmental Rounds, Interior Design, Linen/Uniform Management, Patient Effects, Pest Control, Signage Program and Special Events providing guidance to two Assistant Chiefs of Environmental Management Services', supervisors and subordinates. Develops, evaluates, adapts, and modifies policies and procedures, including infection control protocols, for all service/program functions. Ensures the establishment of adequate training programs to meet compliance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) or Medical Center policies. Acts as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) on service contracts. Analyzes and develops unique or specialized criteria or techniques for dealing with controversial issues when there are no specific guidelines or data. Coordinates and maintains liaison with organizations having related assignments, other agencies, contractors, state and local government authorities, and general public. Performs other related duties as assigned.
