We are seeking a reliable and dedicated Assistant Horticulturist to join our Flying Horse Horticulture team and take on responsibilities related to both the maintenance and oversight of horticultural projects. Under the guidance of the Horticulturist, this role will include assisting with the care of annuals planters, ornamental beds, indoor plants, and other landscaped areas across the Club grounds and golf course, while also guiding a team of horticultural staff to ensure that projects are completed efficiently and to the highest standards.
Requirements
- 1 year experience in horticulture field preferred, but not required
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively supervise and support a team.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Knowledge of plant care, irrigation systems, and safe equipment operation or willingness to learn.
- Physical stamina and flexibility for outdoor, manual tasks.
- Must be punctual, reliable, detail oriented, self-motivated, possess good organizational and communication skills as well as be capable and comfortable handling multiple tasks at a time.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the oversight and installation of ongoing maintenance in our annual planters, ornamental beds, indoor plant installations, planters, baskets, wagons, and other landscaped areas across the Club grounds and golf course.
- Lead a team of horticultural staff based on the direction of the Horticulturist, ensuring that all tasks are carried out efficiently and in alignment with quality standards.
- Provide support and guidance to team members during daily tasks.
- Assist in monitoring and performing tasks related to the fertility, watering, and timely installation/removal of flowers as seasons change, ensuring the overall health and aesthetic of the grounds.
- Monitor and assist with irrigation installations, ensuring systems are functioning properly.
- Perform regular checks for maintenance and troubleshoot any issues as they arise.
- Competent with safe operation of power equipment utilized in the daily maintenance of ornamental plants and shrubs.
- Ensure that all team members adhere to safe working practices, promoting a safe working environment and minimizing risks.
- Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Must be able to bend, stoop and crawl.
- This job requires weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
