About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Head Lifeguard, the Assistant Head Lifeguard is responsible for the day-to-day safety of all Centennial Beach patrons and assisting the Head Lifeguards in the supervision of lifeguard staff.

Requirements

Ability to maintain a high level of readiness and preparedness in handling emergency situations.
Ability to display professionalism with patrons.
Ability to address complaints and resolve concerns.
Minimum two (2) years of Lifeguarding experience at Centennial Beach or comparable aquatic facility, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Full Facility Lifeguard status required.
The ability to obtain and maintain, through Naperville Park District instruction, the Special Facilities Lifeguard Ellis & Associates certification, including First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Scuba certification as required by departmental needs.
Must be at least 16 years old.
Subject to both office and outside environmental conditions.
Subject to modified/flexible work schedules.
Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing ≤ 30 lbs on a weekly basis. Lifting assistance is required when lifting > 30 lbs.
Vision and sight (corrected, if necessary) to perform essential functions of the job.
Regular onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities

Ensure public safety by monitoring all depths of water and areas within Centennial Beach.
Prevent accidents by managing guests, enforcing rules, scanning for swimmers in distress or drowning, and directing weak swimmers to remain in shallow water.
Manage aquatic emergencies and communicate with entire beach staff.
Exercise public. Perform general chemical testing and chemical system monitoring.
Maintain proper care of safety equipment including Scuba, AED, and oxygen tanks.
Demonstrate and support District customer service standards.
prompt and professional judgment in administering rule enforcement for those who violate Beach safety rules. Consult with the Head Lifeguard in cases of disciplinary actions for patrons.
Provide direct supervision of lifeguards when the Head Lifeguard is not present. Assign and schedule lifeguards for specific duties and daily tasks, effectively communicate job expectations and directives, and ensure completion of assigned duties and tasks.
Foster a team environment among Lifeguard staff, and between Lifeguards and other Centennial Beach staff.
Participate in safety beach dives before opening and after facility is closed each day.
Prepare daily beach inspections and daily activity logs.
Maintain open communication with the Head Lifeguard regarding facility and lifeguard operations. Evaluate and continually improve processes and procedures to increase efficiency.
Provide support with pre-season training and weekly in-service training.
Inspect, inventory, and initiate requests for purchases and repairs of program equipment and supplies to the Head Lifeguards.
Perform general maintenance and janitorial duties to maintain a safe, clean, and friendly environment for guests, co-workers, and the
Respond to all customer comments and inquiries in a timely fashion.
Other duties as assigned.
