We have several locations across the US and are looking for new Associates to join our team! POSITION PURPOSE The Assistant General Counsel reports directly to the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer. The AGC will assume overall responsibility for the organization’s regulatory legal matters and serve as the general counsel for PDI’s Foodservice business unit, which involves general commercial and transactional counseling. The AGC is expected to build relationships and maintain strong lines of communication with business leaders and functional colleagues. The AGC will be a trusted, business-minded counselor who enables the compliant achievement of business objectives. The AGC must have the ability to be nimble, operate independently and work proactively with various teams across the PDI organization. Minimal travel is expected. The position is based in PDI’s headquarters in Woodcliff Lake, NJ (4 days per week in office). PDI has facilities in Orangeburg and Tappan, NY, as well as affiliated companies internationally.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school, and licensed to practice law in the United States (preferably New York or New Jersey).
  • Regulatory legal subject matter expert and corporate generalist experience; facility with litigation and employment law a plus.
  • A minimum of 7 years of legal experience, preferably including experience in a law firm and as in-house counsel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required; demonstrated success interacting with senior leadership; strong analytical skills with fluency in translating and navigating risk with a mindset of enabling the business for compliant success.
  • Excellent attention to detail with high level negotiation, organizational and drafting skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and work on multiple projects while adhering to deadlines.
  • Highly flexible in adapting to changing priorities.
  • Incumbent must be disposed to operate in a collaborative, responsive and proactive manner, gaining the confidence and trust of the business partners throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead PDI’s regulatory legal function, including advising the organization and other groups such as Regulatory Affairs, R&D, Quality and other business teams on healthcare and other laws (FDA, EPA, FTC) that relate to PDI’s diversified portfolio of products.
  • Counsel on new product development, marketing and promotional strategies and activities, GMPs, including to ensure compliance with PDI’s corporate social responsibility commitments.
  • Serve as general counsel for PDI’s Foodservice business unit, supporting the unit’s commercial brands and providing general legal and transaction counseling in connection with the unit’s day-to-day operations; draft and negotiate commercial agreements, ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, participate in cross-functional project teams to drive initiatives.
  • Support internal and external audits and inspections including strategizing on responses to regulatory authorities.
  • Interpret and proactively communicate laws, regulations, pending legislation as well as other governmental initiatives that impact and affect the business of the companies.
  • Proactively manage the organization’s compliance and risk profile.
  • Assist with the creation, updating, and maintenance of actionable internal policies, resources, form agreements, and conduct effective legal training.
  • Manage outside counsel in connection with the above responsibilities.
