About The Position

Ottawa University (established in 1865), one of the oldest private liberal arts universities in the United States, is a multi-campus system serving approximately 4000 students through its campuses in Kansas (Ottawa, Kansas- Residential Campus and Overland Park, Kansas- Adult Programs); Arizona (Surprise Residential Campus and OUAZ Adult Programs); Wisconsin (Brookfield Adult Programs); and our OU ONLINE PROGRAM based out of Overland Park, Kansas. Ottawa University is a regionally accredited, church-related, private university that strives to integrate faith, learning, and life in the academic experiences of students. RESPONSIBLE FOR: assistance and organization to the administration of a university athletic program including the recruitment of student athletes, coaching, mentoring, instructing, practice management, athletic team competition management, and the retention of student athletes.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Coaching experience, prefer collegiate level experience.
  • Current/valid Drivers License
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and motivation skills
  • Ability to think critically and provide options for sound solutions
  • Ability to manage individuals and complex tasks
  • Positive role model for student-athletes, university personnel, alumni, and members of the off- campus community.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching, mentoring, instructing and imparting knowledge, to student athletes, as a part of an athletic team and program.
  • Participates as a member of a coaching team to recruit, retain, and graduate student-athletes, contributing to the success of the program and vibrancy of campus life. Provide ongoing support to student-athletes concerning their academic progress toward degree completion.
  • Provides support to Head Coach in the administration of the program including fund and friend raising for the advancement of the program.
  • Provides ongoing support and conversation to student athletes to assure a strong relationship and support with the athlete and family, guide student athletes in all aspects of program participation.
  • Contributes toward meeting team enrollment targets and the retention of student athletes.
  • Collaborates with and support other coaches and personnel within the athletic department.
  • Ensures adherence to the NAIA and rules and regulations including the NAIA Champions of Character 5 core values
  • Provides leadership to student athletes regarding campus involvement and community service.
  • Provides Christ-centered leadership and direction as a mentor of the assigned program.
  • Provides a strong academic emphasis and support of academics through your leadership and activities of the athletic team. Be mindful of the contribution the student-athletes make to the Surprise community including academic performance and participation in and contribution to non-athletic activities.
  • Fulfill commitments to all additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics which may include game day management, administrative and/or teaching responsibilities.
  • Model and encourage collaboration among University departments assuring effective communication and operations.
  • Understand the Universitys policies and, procedures, and exercise good judgment accordingly. Assure that University and student information is managed in a confidential and ethical manner in accordance with the Universitys Code of Conduct and Ethics.
  • Provide leadership through conduct, attitude, and professionalism. Represent the University to students, external groups, faculty, and staff in a way that reflects positively on the University.
