About The Position

Reporting to the Food Services Manager, the Assistant Food Services Manager is the primary floor leader responsible for the daily execution of the Deli, Cheese, and Bakery/Coffee departments. This role focuses on shift management, direct supervision of the Food Service Team Members, and maintaining exceptional product and service standards. The Assistant Manager acts as the "shift quarterback," directing staff where they are needed most, while heavily participating in hands-on food production, customer service, and sanitation tasks across all zones.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in weights, measures, and basic food preparation.
  • Ability to prioritize concurrent tasks and direct a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to stand/walk for extended periods, bend, squat, lift up to 20 lbs regularly, and work in changing temperatures (walk-in coolers)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in customer service, deli, cheese, or coffee operations.
  • Minimum of 1 year in a lead, supervisor, or equivalent role.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise the daily activities of Food Service Team Members.
  • Adjust daily floor deployment to handle customer rushes across the Deli, Cheese, and Bakery/Coffee counters.
  • Maintain a positive, upbeat, "smile first" orientation.
  • Actively prepare customer orders, including slicing meats, preparing sandwiches, cutting cheese to order, and making espresso beverages.
  • Assist the Food Services Manager with writing schedules, conducting inventory counts, and placing daily orders.
  • Assume full department leadership responsibilities in the Manager's absence.
  • Teach and mentor staff on product knowledge, customer service standards, and safe food handling protocols.
  • Ensure all team members observe standard operating procedures (e.g., knife protocol, glove usage).
  • Restock and face products, maintaining the aesthetic purity of the cases (e.g., smoothing over removed product, facing meats/cheeses toward the customer).
  • Ensure proper restocking of condiments, napkins, and to-go containers.
  • Execute strict opening and closing procedures.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of cutting stations, deli cases, espresso machines, and retail seating spaces.
  • Accurately maintain temp and waste logs.
