Under limited direction, the Assistant Fire Marshal performs professional supervisory, administrative, and technical work in all areas of emergency management, permitting and code enforcement, investigations, and formulating and implementing strategy to obtain fire prevention, construction, and education goals Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Plans, supports, and manages a comprehensive municipal fire prevention, investigation, public education, and emergency management program for enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and codes as they pertain to fire safety. Empowers, develops, and manages assigned personnel involved in fire prevention inspection, arson investigation, and fire safety work, resolving conflicts; promotes teamwork and ensures communication among shifts and districts. Ensures and encourages uniformity of fire prevention and investigations management and facilitates coordination of activities among shifts, districts, and other departments and agencies. Manages and ensures coordination of Emergency Management Plans and Procedures, the Department's fire investigations, Fire Code Enforcement Operations, and Public Education programs. Plans, develops, prepares, and implements the Fire Prevention and Investigations Bureau annual budget and manages operations within that budget; tracks and monitors expenses and ensures the adherence to all budgetary guidelines and standards. Promotes innovation, improvement, and employee development to achieve the vision of the department; participates in policy and protocol development; implements new procedures and encourages staff development. Supervises, oversees, and assists in the management of fire staff and personnel; administers appropriate disciplinary action as necessary, provides performance evaluation and feedback, and monitors department goals and objectives. Oversees the preparation and compilation of division records and statistics. Investigates cause and origin of fires; collaborates with other staff and personnel to investigate and gather information about fire and emergency incidents. Performs other duties as assigned.
