Assistant Field Hockey Coach
About The Position
Founded in 1818, Saint Louis University is one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious Catholic universities. Assist head coach with organization and supervision of the Field Hockey program including: coaching and teaching both instructional skills and team concepts; recruiting qualified student-athletes with a commitment to academic success; maintaining compliance with NCAA, Atlantic 10 and university rules and regulations; managing the team budget; organizing and directing camps, clinics, and fundraising activities; and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of field hockey concepts/strategies
- Knowledge of NCAA bylaws and playing rules
- Strong communication and motivational skills
- Knowledge of sports performance training techniques
- Demonstrate a philosophy that emphasizes academic priorities and progression for student-athletes
- Ability to identify athletic and academic talent
- Demonstrated appreciation for diversity
- Organizational/planning skills
- Ability to serve as a positive role model
- Bachelor’s degree
- supplemented with two (2) years of playing/coaching experience at the high school, collegiate or professional level
Responsibilities
- Assists head coach in managing team practices
- assists in teaching tactical concepts including offensive and defensive strategies
- provides one-on-one and group instruction
- assists in planning/liaison to sports performance
- evaluate student-athlete performance in both practice and competition
- Performs recruiting related activities: compliance coordination
- assists with on-campus visits
- travel for off-campus recruiting and evaluation
- ability to identify student-athletes capable of succeeding both athletically and academically
- Assists head coach in the preparation and design of practice plans and game strategies
- collection and analysis of scouting reports on opponents
- team related travel
- Assists with planning and coordination of activities that promote community engagement (e.g., camps, clinics, service, and fundraising)
- Performs other duties as assigned
