About The Position

The role of the Assistant Environmental Health + Safety (EHS) Manager is to eliminate or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error, equipment and machine operations which may lead to human injury and / or property damage. Must apply advanced mathematical techniques; professional engineering principles, methods, and techniques; safety-related elements of the physical sciences, ergonomics, psychology and physiology; and safety principles, standards, practices and analytical techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health + Safety Sciences or related field; equivalent combinations of technical education and / or industrial related safety experience may substitute for educational requirement
  • 2 years of experience in occupational Environmental Health + Safety or a related field
  • Possess current First Aid, CPR and AED certification
  • Possess BCSP credential or equivalent
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures
  • Decision making, research and analytical problem solving skills
  • Time management with the ability to organize, assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands, and to work independently
  • Possess strong communication skills, and interact effectively at all levels within the organization and external to DAVIS
  • Construction industry experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform independent routine walk through inspections of construction areas on projects
  • Conduct routine EHS Audits and inspections on projects using DAVIS-provided software
  • Assemble and deliver project start up safety packages for new projects
  • Assist teams in determining project signage and posting needs
  • Lead project EHS kick off meetings with project team
  • Prepare and present content for internal project team meetings and trade partner meetings
  • Prepare and review JHAs for high hazard activities
  • Conduct crane plan review
  • Complete Monthly Project EHS Assessment
  • Review Monthly Project EHS Assessment with project team
  • Record hours worked each week for all assigned projects for OSHA tracking
  • Provide all information and documentation required on weekly incident log
  • Compile open issues reports and communication for the project teams
  • Verify and close all identified hazards on project sites
  • Able to research and collaborate to obtain information for EHS related issues
  • Participate in OSHA Inspections and consultations
  • Conducts personal injury and property damage accident investigations; compile data, photographs, and other necessary documentation for reporting purposes
  • Work with subcontractors to develop overall satisfactory level of safety compliance on projects
  • Develop and apply practical solutions for project safety issues with assistance
  • Independently identify special protective and safety equipment needs for projects
  • Provide instruction for DAVIS Competent Person and other EHS related classes
  • Develop EHS Courses and create content
  • Enforce EHS regulations with subcontractor and DAVIS personnel
  • Help develop corporate goals relating to company and project level EHS performance
  • Lead EHS Initiatives and Business Plan items
  • Identify and address high risk activities and trends within the company
  • Help develop and update corporate and project EHS policies and procedures
  • Assist in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of specialized knowledge, skill and abilities
  • Review proposed occupational safety policies, guidelines and standards to determine their consistency and recommend technical changes as needed
  • Apply knowledge of psychological and physiological factors to assist in the installation of safety features and controls, compensating for the possibility of human errors in the operation of machinery and equipment
  • Research new products and technologies
  • Assist project teams in planning for high-risk activities and project team inspection schedules
  • Perform other duties as assigned
