About The Position

Chelsea Piers is seeking to hire an Assistant Dockmaster to join our Marina team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the Marina and Docks, assist in supervising and training new dockhands, accommodating all seasonal and transient customers, and assist in the general maintenance of the facility. This role reports to the Marina Manager/Dockmaster and works closely with the Marina office.

Requirements

  • You work well both independently and in a team environment, punctual, professional and able to communicate clearly and effectively with your teammates.
  • You must be comfortable working around boats and on the water.
  • You are able to stand for long periods of time working in all-weather elements throughout your shift.
  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience
  • Minimum 5 years marina experience
  • Ability to work safely around the water
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be highly organized, flexible, and detail oriented
  • Must be capable of working both independently and as part of a team
  • Must have a flexible schedule to include working weekends, holidays, and evenings
  • This position is based at Chelsea Piers in New York, New York

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in marina management software systems such as Dockwa preferred
  • Basic boat handling experience preferred
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Dockmaster with scheduling and managing all dockhand tasks
  • Maintain a professional presence both in person and on the radio
  • Monitor VHF radio for all communications with the marina
  • Approve inbound and outbound clearance as boats arrive and depart
  • Ensure all customers have an exceptional experience at the marina
  • Maintain and enforce marina rules to ensure the safety and compliance of all guests
  • Perform daily inspection of the docks and Submit reports of any issues
  • Perform daily dock walks verifying all empty slips and boats are in the correct location
  • Verify all transient boats have arrived / departed according to their reservations
  • Upon vessel departures, verify all accounts are up to date and paid in full.
  • Maintain a clean property and marina by keeping docks clear and removing any trash when seen
  • Take proactive approach to severe weather prevention; steps to secure and protect docks, vessels, customer and marina personnel
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with customers, coworkers, and all departments.
  • All other duties as assigned by management
