The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) seeks an Assistant Division Director in the Building Design and Construction Division (BDCD), in Capital Facilities (CAP). This branch chief position will manage a diverse team of approximately nine (9) to twelve (12) professional architects and engineers with responsibility for project management, planning, design, budget, schedule, customer satisfaction, and quality control for a wide variety of complex, high profile building development projects, for new construction and major renovations, ranging from approximately $500,000 to over $100 million in value. This leadership position is in the Building Design Branch and may fill multiple openings. This position plays an important role in leading the implementation of the county's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and works closely with the Department of Management and Budget to develop and implement budget and funding strategies. This position develops, evaluates and maintains goals and performance objectives, supervises daily activities of the branch, allocates resources, and ensures that high quality work is accomplished on schedule, within budget, and with a high-level of customer satisfaction. Other areas of responsibility include safety program training and emphasis, quality control of design documents, review of consultant qualifications, leadership in implementation of sustainability and energy conservation in all projects, and management of human resources. This position will model and promote a proactive and collaborative partnership with the other branches in BDCD, divisions in CAP and DPWES, and with BDCD's customers and stakeholder agencies. Please review our awesome benefits: The Building Design and Construction Division The Building Design and Construction Division is an award-winning organization responsible for implementing all major building, renovation and major capital renewal projects identified in the Fairfax County Capital Improvement Program, including fire stations, libraries, courts, police stations, office buildings, maintenance facilities, parking structures, human services facilities and other major infrastructure and public-private partnership projects. This announcement may fill multiple positions which work in the Fairfax County Government Center at 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax Virginia. Responsibilities: This position plays a significant role in providing strategic leadership for ongoing process improvement and organizational development. In addition to the promotion of the safety program, this position is required to serve as a member of the Emergency Operations Team with responsibility for training certification. Design management responsibilities include selection of professional design consultants in accordance with procurement policy, assuring conformance to negotiation and accounting standards; management of the design process from concept through construction documents to include coordination with user agencies, project stakeholders, and the community; coordination of zoning approvals and permits; and collaboration with the construction management team through project closeout. Responsibilities also include development of proffer language, development agreements and memorandum of understanding with external stakeholders. Will be required to lead public meetings and conferences and serve on technical committees and provide planning and contractual recommendations to the BDCD Director and other senior county leadership.
