About The Position

The Goddard School located in Locust Point, MD, is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Director to support daily operations while remaining actively engaged in classrooms. This is an ideal opportunity for an early childhood education leader who enjoys mentoring teachers, supporting students, and contributing to a high-quality preschool environment. This role spends 60% or more of the workweek in classrooms, directly supporting teachers and children, ensuring instructional quality, classroom consistency, and positive learning experiences. When classroom support is not needed, the Assistant Director assists with administrative and operational responsibilities. Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or a related field (required)
  • Strong Leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and collaborate with teaching staff
  • Passion for working with young children and supporting educators
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development

Nice To Haves

  • Management or leadership experience in a licensed childcare center, preschool, or early learning program (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers and students through regular in-classroom guidance and assistance
  • Oversee daily preschool operations including staffing support, quality assurance, and faculty coordination
  • Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with families
  • Ensure compliance with all Maryland childcare licensing regulations
  • Model professionalism, positivity, and flexibility in a fast-paced early childhood setting
  • Assist with administrative functions as assigned by the School Director
  • Demonstrate excellent organization, time management, and multitasking skills
  • Uphold a strong commitment to child development and early education excellence
