About The Position

Supervise and evaluate the day-to-day activities and work output of all the employees assigned to a transportation center. Provide leadership and direction of all employees at a transportation center to effect safe and on time transport of students and KISD employees. Always act in the best interest of the district, the students and the community.

Requirements

  • College hours, High School diploma or GED (required)
  • Five years of demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability (written and oral) to interview, counsel and communicate with other employees and patrons
  • Five years of management/supervisory experience in school transportation
  • Able to read and interpret maps and routes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and well developed written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree (preferred)
  • TAPT certification (or able to obtain within three years of hire)
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the efficient day-to-day operation of a transportation center site to include drivers, mechanics, daycare workers, staff, vehicles and facilities.
  • Coordinate the daily assignment of qualified personnel to all transportation routes across the district by scheduling bus drivers, vehicles, and substitutes for regular routes, field trips, and extracurricular activities during morning, mid-day, and afternoon shifts.
  • Monitor workload and departmental costs to ensure efficient operation, including managing overtime, extended duty hours and other operational expenses.
  • Exercise sound judgment, problem-solving abilities, and initiative in addressing challenges and making decisions.
  • Implement safety and security initiatives by organizing and conducting regular training programs to promote a safe work environment.
  • Supervise and evaluate transportation staff as directed by the Directors of Transportation.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to vehicle accidents, incidents and emergencies, ensuring the Executive Director and relevant parties are notified as necessary.
  • Investigate and document reported concerns in a timely manner and take appropriate action to resolve issues. Coordinate with the Associate Director, Employee Services for Transportation when appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community.
  • Promote a positive image aligned with the school district's mission by fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment. Engage respectfully and equitably with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and abilities, while encouraging employee success, engagement, and professional development.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity when dealing with sensitive personnel matters.
