About The Position

The Assistant Director - Student Leadership plays a pivotal role in the successful development of student leadership programs at the Culinary Institute of America. Serving as the primary advisor for the Student Council and student clubs, as well as managing the overall development of student leadership on campus.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs/Leadership or another related field of study or a Bachelor's Degree with at least two (2) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience working with student governments, student clubs or other student leadership groups.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience advising/supervising student leaders and/or volunteers.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience planning and implementing training protocol for student leaders and/or volunteers.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills required. Must have a demonstrated ability in time management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong computer experience, which must include the ability to work effectively with MS Office suite products, i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment and maintain collaborative relationships.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of student development.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of professional experience working with student governments, student clubs, or other student leadership groups.
  • Experience as a student leader on a student government, student council, or other student organization.
  • Experience with public speaking and presentations.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and best practices for leadership development.
  • Strong social media knowledge and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Advise, develop, and support the Student Council.
  • Oversee student club finances, including Student Council administrative and discretionary accounts.
  • Serve as the primary staff member overseeing student clubs; works in conjunction with their advisors in the operations and development of each group.
  • Support the implementation of student organization training and advisor training with regard to leadership development, member recruitment and retention, interpersonal communication, finance, risk management, conflict resolution, wellbeing, and facilitation.
  • Assist the Assistant Director - Student Engagement in the design and implementation of workshops, retreats, and other training programs for Orientation Leaders.
  • Actively attends a variety of student club events every month, representing the department and making intentional connections with students.
  • Coordinate with Student Council on student-led projects and initiatives that have a positive impact on campus.
  • Assist the Director - Student Engagement and department colleagues with overall management and oversight of the Student Recreation Center within the Student Commons.
  • Provide training, work direction, and guidance to student workers; plan, assign, and monitor their tasks and work schedules.
  • Coordinate and manage weekly meetings with Student Council, as well as monthly meetings with student club officers.
  • Assist with applicable School, Student Life, and Departmental programs and services as requested by the Senior Associate Dean - Campus Life & Student Development or the Director - Student Engagement.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.
