About The Position

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Purchasing and Contracts, the Assistant Director, Strategic Procurement provides leadership and oversight of strategic sourcing initiatives and procurement activities for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. This role supports the advancement of cost savings, quality assurance, analytics, and process improvements while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and institutional requirements. The Assistant Director serves as both a strategic and operational thought partner to the Executive Director, supporting campus-wide and NSHE system-wide procurement initiatives. This position balances strategic leadership with hands-on oversight of procurement activity, compliance functions, and operational accountability, and supports procurement functions serving Nevada State University (NSU), UNLV’s PCard Program, and supplier onboarding and offboarding systems.

Requirements

  • This position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 3-5 years of supervisory or management experience and 5-7 years of purchasing experience.
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support strategic sourcing initiatives focused on cost savings, value maximization, and service improvements.
  • Provide quality assurance and oversight for complex, high-risk solicitations, contracts, and procurement transactions.
  • Analyze spend data, market conditions, and procurement trends to inform sourcing strategies and negotiations.
  • Support the development, revision, and implementation of procurement policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines.
  • Serve as a compliance resource, coordinating with Audit, Legal, and the Controller’s Office on audits, risk mitigation, and corrective actions.
  • Support procurement systems implementations, optimization, reporting, analytics, and process improvement efforts.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentoring, and professional development to procurement staff.
  • Represent Purchasing and Contracts in cross-functional and system-wide initiatives, as assigned.
  • Serve as a delegated backup to the Executive Director when needed.
