About The Position

The Assistant Director of School Improvement coordinates and provides support for the implementation of school improvement plans for all Stafford County Public Schools. This position also provides leadership for and facilitation of professional development for the middle and high school School Improvement Specialists. The Assistant Director will also manage and report on division level assessment data, and will act as Division Director of Testing (2).

Requirements

  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university, with a major or concentration in a field related to education or data science
  • Three (3) years of experience in the development of school improvement plans (state, division, or school level)
  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Adminstration and Supervision
  • Knowledge of Virginia Standards of Learning Assessment Program design, purpose, and administration, including responsibilities of the Division Director of Testing and site-based testing coordinators
  • Knowledge of current research and trends in education with special emphasis on curriculum, instruction and training, student assessment data, testing practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of best practices for school improvement plans and monitoring of strategic initiatives
  • Knowledge of best practices for instructional and data coaching
  • Computer usage to include Internet and Intranet, spreadsheet and office applications (Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel) and familiarity with computerized testing programs.

  • Three (3) years of successful full-time experience as a school-based administrator: substantial experience as a teacher, counselor, or central office coordinator or administrator may be considered

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with principals on the development of school improvement plans.
  • Facilitates professional learning for school-based administration, school improvement specialists, and other staff on effective practices in school improvement including goal development, progress monitoring, data interpretation, and application of findings to instruction.
  • Monitors all Stafford County Public Schools school improvement plans by meeting regularly with school leadership teams and reviewing progress on school goals, evidence, and artifacts as related to the plan.
  • Analyzes and disseminates student outcome data to schools as it relates to school improvement efforts and state accountability ratings.
  • Manage and report division level assessment data through reports, presentations, and data visualizations to communicate results of student performance.
  • Collaborates within and across departments to ensure data from assessment programs informs evaluation of programs and progress toward the division’s strategic plan and priorities.
  • Monitors progress of federally identified support schools.
  • Coordinates and ensures compliance for federal grant implementation in collaboration with various Stafford teams.
  • Serves as Division Director of Testing (2) and provides testing support to School Improvement Specialists (SIS) during testing as needed.
  • Supports the SIS at the middle and high school level with problem-solving issues surrounding data, accountability, testing, and coaching.
  • Provides professional development opportunities through monthly meetings.
  • Participates as a member of the School Leadership Support Team (SLST) committee that coordinates division-wide training and implementation of coaching competencies for all SLST members.
  • Collaborates with the Office of School Leadership team and Department of Academic Programs on the implementation of the division’s strategic plan and priorities.
  • Collaborates with the school leadership team, in accordance with Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) guidance to monitor school improvement plans.
  • Collaborates with division and school leadership in the analysis and understanding of school accreditation/accountability reports.
  • Reviews division data collection and reporting methodologies to support accurate reporting to the VDOE.
  • Oversees and trains school and division staff on growth assessment implementation.
  • Coordinates the county’s assessment calendar.
