About The Position

The Assistant Director of Plant Operations has the responsibility to assist in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation for Plant Operations at Vicar's Landing. The responsibilities include assisting in administrative, fiscal, and operational tasks for the department. The individual must also be able to handle the health care aspect of the position as it relates to life safety codes, infection control, and emergency medical responses to Vicar's Landing Members. In addition, must understand and ensure staff observe and understand all aspects of residents’ rights.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 5-7 years of related experience in maintenance, plant operations, or similar occupation.
  • Valid state driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Intermediate experience in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written format in the English language.
  • Able to listen effectively and respond to customer and employee requests.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane, algebra, solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Employee must have excellent balance and be able to climb a ladder and walk around a roof.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and be able to work at heights.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus as well as work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • The employee must be able to communicate verbally with other on the phone or in person.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in building construction, engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience preferred, and/or continued progression of career advancement in the last five years.

Responsibilities

  • Assume the administrative authority, responsibility, and accounting of directing Plant Operations in the event the Director of Plant Operations is unavailable.
  • Must be able to plan, organize and implement strategic goals and objectives for the department, including budgetary considerations.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks in a timely manner, such as completing necessary forms, reports, evaluations, inventory requests, and/or correspondence.
  • Respond to department emergency needs on an “On-Call” basis, as needed
  • Respond to and follow up on all workplace related accidents or incidents, as well as alerting Human Resources to submitted Workers’ Compensation claims within 24 hours.
  • Lead team meetings and present oral and/or written reports to senior management on department updates, as needed.
  • Maintain and uphold Vicar’s Landing policy and procedures, as well as providing corrective action and coaching as necessary to department members.
  • Must be able to motivate department members as a group and individually to accomplish department goals.
  • Must ensure that proper training of staff occurs on the responsibilities of the department (infection control, procedure for entering apartments, CPR techniques, etc.).
  • Must interact with the membership of Vicar's Landing in a professional, caring and compassionate manner.
  • Must have an understanding of federal, state and local laws and regulations as relate to infection control, bio-hazard waste, health care regulations, and other such requirements that impact independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing, as relate to a continuing care community.
  • Must have a working knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and be able to assist in monitoring such a program to ensure its success at Vicar's Landing.
  • Must have a working understanding of, and be able to fix or cause to be fixed, issues dealing with construction, heating and air conditioning, electrical and plumbing problems, and other maintenance related concerns.
  • Inspect the facility on a regular basis to ensure that the grounds, facility, and equipment are maintained in good repair and all hazardous areas are properly identified.
  • Must be able to ensure that the grounds of Vicar's Landing are kept in fine fashion, with appropriate planting of flowers, trees, etc. An understanding of landscaping is required.
  • Must be able to develop effective safety policies and procedures.
  • Inspect, maintain, and test fire alarm and emergency systems and maintain appropriate records of test results.
  • Must have an understanding of fire code issues.
  • Must have a thorough working understanding of Vicar's Landing's evacuation program.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
