Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for the organization and administration of the Nursing Department. The ADON works closely with front-line nursing supervisors to monitor the quality of patient care, orient and evaluate new employees; promote effective communication (inter and intra-departmental), and provide a quality work environment through teaming principles. In the absence of the Director of Nursing, the ADON assumes the Director of Nursing duties. Responsible, along with the Director of Nursing, for the general morale of staff. Provides a quality work environment through teaming principles, effective team leadership, and a demonstrated positive attitude. Participates in the hiring, discipline, development, and evaluation of personnel. Proactive in the development, maintenance, and updating of policies and procedures Organized and administers nursing services Directs and supervises professional and non-professional nursing staff Delegates authority commensurate with responsibility Assists in adhering to budgeted figures for labor by having staff scheduled according to budgeted hours Monitors and coordinates Nursing Service functions to ensure that department is operating in accordance with Federal and State standards Ensures patients' medical records are completed accurately and on a timely basis, updates Patient Care Policy Manual Promotes good inter/intra-departmental communications and consults as necessary with all departments Monitors and evaluates patient care and safety by daily communication with nurses, supervisors, and physicians Assumes duties of Director of Nursing in their absence Responsible for assisting in maintaining quality staff and staffing Assist in overseeing an effective departmental orientation program Directs evaluation of new employees prior to their completion of a 90-day orientation period Demonstrates professionalism; supports facility Administrator, maintains confidentiality, and adheres to Facility policies and State and Federal guidelines Assist in counseling residents and families as needed Demonstrates good management skills by utilizing ability to work through staff to effect highest level quality of care for residents Attends mandatory in-services annually and attends other pertinent outside seminars Participation in local Long Term Care organizations is encouraged Responsible for the assessment of village residents Responsible for assessments of health care residents prior to admission Performs other duties as requested/required
