Requirements

• Thorough understanding of nursing management strategies
• Possesses knowledge of the nurse practice act as well as State and Federal regulations
• Demonstrates ability to work and communicate effectively and efficiently with residents and families, various departments, and other personnel
• Possesses State of Wisconsin nursing license
• At least one years of supervisory experience in a nursing environment

Responsibilities

• Responsible for managing, directing, and supervising the nursing department
• Evaluates employee performance, completes evaluations, handles corrective action, and performance improvement planning
• Delegates and supervises the development and implementation of the resident assessment (MDS) and care plan, participating as necessary
• Defines and maintains the standards of nursing practice in the facility
• Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the DON as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the nursing service department
• Assists in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care
• Participates in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or DON
• Participates in developing, implementing and updating the resident’s written discharge plan
• Schedules daily rounds to observe residents and to determine if nursing needs are being met
• Participates in investigations of possible abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of assets
• Performs other duties as assigned
