Position Summary The Assistant Director of Nursing plays a vital leadership role in ensuring high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, and staff support within the Skilled Nursing Unit. This position serves as a key partner to the Director of Nursing and helps lead nursing operations across all shifts.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Alabama Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in geriatric nursing and/or a BSN
  • At least two years of nursing management experience, preferably in long-term care
  • Prior management experience required
  • Ability to fulfill some on-call responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support direct nursing care within the Skilled Nursing Unit
  • Provide hands-on nursing care when advanced clinical needs arise
  • Conduct routine rounds to ensure quality care, safety, and cleanliness
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of medical records
  • Coordinate, conduct, and document MDS assessments and resident care plans when the MDS Nurse is unavailable
  • Supervise nursing staff across all shifts, including staffing, scheduling, orientation, counseling, and performance evaluations
  • Assist with onboarding and ongoing training of nursing personnel
  • Participate in resident and family counseling and care coordination
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations
  • Serve as Acting Director of Nursing in the DON’s absence
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication across shifts and departments
