Position Summary The Assistant Director of Nursing plays a vital leadership role in ensuring high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, and staff support within the Skilled Nursing Unit. This position serves as a key partner to the Director of Nursing and helps lead nursing operations across all shifts.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current Alabama Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum of two years’ experience in geriatric nursing and/or a BSN
- At least two years of nursing management experience, preferably in long-term care
- Prior management experience required
- Ability to fulfill some on-call responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support direct nursing care within the Skilled Nursing Unit
- Provide hands-on nursing care when advanced clinical needs arise
- Conduct routine rounds to ensure quality care, safety, and cleanliness
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of medical records
- Coordinate, conduct, and document MDS assessments and resident care plans when the MDS Nurse is unavailable
- Supervise nursing staff across all shifts, including staffing, scheduling, orientation, counseling, and performance evaluations
- Assist with onboarding and ongoing training of nursing personnel
- Participate in resident and family counseling and care coordination
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations
- Serve as Acting Director of Nursing in the DON’s absence
- Maintain clear, consistent communication across shifts and departments
